SALLE URSA FENCING CLUB ACHIEVES CLUBMARK

06 May 2010

Salle Ursa Fencing Club is pleased to announce that it has received Sport England Clubmark accreditation through England Fencing. The accreditation recognises excellence in fencing provision across all aspects of the club and, more specifically, is the "gold standard" across all sports for junior participation. The accreditation signifies having met high quality standards in safeguarding, protecting and developing young people in fencing; club management and sports equity and ethics. Salle Ursa Fencing Club has the ability to guarantee schools in Coventry and Warwickshire a high standard of coaching and the presence of child-friendly systems, enabling participants to benefit fully from the expertise that it offers. Salle Ursa Fencing Club provides a safe, supportive and structured environment for volunteers, whether experienced or just starting out, and welcomes everyone who would like to see what fencing is all about.

Edward Caborn, the club Chairman commented: "This season Salle Ursa Fencing Club juniors have been hugely successful, Salle Ursa Fencing Club have the current regional Under 16 sabre champion and several fencers of the club have been selected to represent the West Midlands region at the British Youth Championship in the Under 12 category. Achieving Clubmark accreditation shows that the club provides a consistently high standard of training, competition and development within the sport. We are very proud to be the only fencing club in Warwickshire to have achieved this award and will continue to provide high-quality and enjoyable fencing opportunities for all our members."

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP SUCCESS AT SALLE URSA

05 October 2009

Salle Ursa sabre fencer Vivien Frith was selected to compete at this year’s World Veterans Fencing Championship held in Moscow, Russia on 23-27 September 2009. Being selected to represent Great Britain at the Worlds was a massive achievement, but her performance didn’t stop there: Viv Frith has won Bronze medal for GB! Her Coach, Peter Rome said: “Viv (who was a relative novice amongst her fellow competitors) has done incredibly well, going from strength to strength: winning Commonwealth Gold medal and a European Championship Bronze medal earlier this year. Viv’s hard work and dedication to training brings her fantastic results and we’re very proud to have such a great role model at our Club. Many congratulations on her outstanding achievement!” Members of Salle Ursa Fencing Club celebrated her performance upon her return to training and are looking forward to the 2009/2010 fencing season with confidence – Viv’s example is an inspiration to us all.

THREE COMMONWEALTH CHAMPIONS AT SALLE URSA

30 July 2009

A cut above the rest! Sabre fencers Daniel Perry, Louise Creechan and Vivien Frith have done us really proud: for the first time ever there are 3 Commonwealth Champions at Salle Ursa Fencing Club! The medal shower started with Dan’s success in India, continued with Louise’s victories in India and Malaysia, and is now topped with Viv’s gold from Jersey. Top performance from all three, well done!
