Twinning with Fechtclub Soltau (October 2011)
Welcome to fencers from our twin fencing club, Soltau in Germany who are visiting Salle Ursa Fencing Club on 15-20 October 2011! Fencers from Soltau are competing in the Coventry Open Fencing Tournament and taking part in training sessions at Salle Ursa in Coventry and Warwick. It is a fantastic experience for Salle Ursa fencers to compete and train with our German friends and we look forward to visiting them in Soltau as part of a return visit. Some photos of this week are already uploaded to our photo album.
Salle Ursa Fencing Club features in 2012 fencing video (September 2011)
The 3-minute video provides an introduction to fencing and shows the club in action. First launched in July 2011, the video is now available online.
Novice Workshops (August 2011)
From September 2011 we are introducing a new initiative for all fencers at Salle Ursa Fencing Club. Novice Workshops will be run on the first session of every month at our main hubs (Hereward College in Coventry, St Nicholas Park in Warwick, Harris Sports Centre in Rugby). These workshops will be aimed at fencers who completed their beginners' courses within the last 12 months. Our coaches will cover topics relevant to novices, including technique, bladework and footwork, terminology, tips & advice about using fencing equipment, rules and all other questions that you need answers for. Our coaches are here to help you develop your fencing skills at your own pace. The first workshop dates are: 1st September in Rugby, 6th September in Coventry, 7th September in Warwick.

2012 Open Weekend (July 2011)
Salle Ursa Fencing Club showcases fencing in the Sports at the Games video blog series. The videos will be launched on Saturday 23rd July 2011 at Millennium Square in Coventry, at the CSW area's Live Site. The main part of the event and the launch of the video blogs will happen at 1:30-3pm and everyone is welcome. There will be fun activities throughout the day for all to get involved. Salle Ursa Fencing Club is part of the London 2012 Inspire Programme, which means that our club is part of a select number of projects which have been officially endorsed by London 2012. This is something we are very proud of as this is a completely unique project in the UK.


Rome coaches GB team (April 2011)
Salle Ursa head coach Peter Rome travelled to Spain with the GB team to the IWAS Wheelchair Fencing World Cup in Malaga. The World Cup, that was the first international competition for the GB team this season, attracted more entries from men and women fencing foil, epee and sabre in categories A-C than ever before. The competition was one of the selection events for 2012. Best GB results include Simon Wilson, Tom Hall-Butcher and Olwyn Fitzgerald all winning their first round of DEs, and GB team beating the US. Fencing Inspires (March 2011)
Salle Ursa Fencing Club's Fencing Inspires project received Inspire Mark from LOCOG. Fencing Inspires is a series of events showcasing Olympic and Paralympic style fencing, wheelchair fencing and offers exciting activities for children and adults to have a go at fencing in Coventry, Warwick and Rugby. Taster sessions, target practice competitions, top level displays and videos attracted over 200 people on 19th March at the Moat House Leisure Centre at one Fencing Inspires event. West Midlands Regional Qualifiers (January 2011)

done to all Salle Ursa junior sabre fencers who fenced at the West
Midlands regional qualifiers for the British Youth Championships (BYC).
Congratulations to all who qualified to represent our region at the
national finals: George Miller, Connor Taylor, Sophie Roscoe, Sarah
Pittock and especially to Matthew Jones, Lizzie Moffat, Shreya Anil and
Alice Moffat who all were also regional champions in their age groups.

Fencers of Salle Ursa won 7 medals in total: 3 gold (Dan and Viv in sabre, Detti in foil) 3 silver (Kin in foil, Matt and Jenny in sabre), 1 bronze (Mike in epee). Dan also successfully defended his Master at Arms title. Several novices also entered the competition and performed at a high standard. Congratulations to all!
Clubmark (May 2010)
Salle Ursa Fencing Club is pleased to announce that it has received Sport England Clubmark accreditation through England Fencing. The accreditation recognises excellence in fencing provision across all aspects of the club and, more specifically, is the "gold standard" across all sports for junior participation. The accreditation signifies having met high quality standards in safeguarding, protecting and developing young people in fencing; club management and sports equity and ethics. Salle Ursa Fencing Club has the ability to guarantee schools in Coventry and Warwickshire a high standard of coaching and the presence of child-friendly systems, enabling participants to benefit fully from the expertise that it offers. Salle Ursa Fencing Club provides a safe, supportive and structured environment for volunteers, whether experienced or just starting out, and welcomes everyone who would like to see what fencing is all about.
Edward Caborn, the club Chairman commented: "This season Salle Ursa Fencing Club juniors have been hugely successful, Salle Ursa Fencing Club have the current regional Under 16 sabre champion and several fencers of the club have been selected to represent the West Midlands region at the British Youth Championship in the Under 12 category. Achieving Clubmark accreditation shows that the club provides a consistently high standard of training, competition and development within the sport. We are very proud to be the only fencing club in Warwickshire to have achieved this award and will continue to provide high-quality and enjoyable fencing opportunities for all our members."
