VETERANS CHAMPION, REGIONAL YOUTH CHAMPIONS, NATIONAL OPEN SUCCESS
31 January 2010
At the recent Veteran National Championship Viv Frith won a gold medal in sabre and is therefore selected to compete at the veteran’s World Championship in Porec, Croatia in September 2010. At last year’s World Championship in Moscow she achieved a fantastic Bronze medal, after winning Commonwealth Gold medal and a European Championship Bronze earlier in the same year. We are all very proud of the talented young sabre fencers of Salle Ursa who competed at the Regional qualifier event of the British Youth Championship in Birmingham. Matthew Jones won the under 16 boys gold medal and Shreya Anil won the under 12 girls gold medal. Matthew has improved so much since last year when he got bronze medal at the same competition: he showed true strength and determination to win the final in magnificent form. Sarah Pittock and Sophie Roscoe took silver and bronze respectively in the under 12 girls category and George Smith got bronze in the under 12 boys group. George Miller (u12) and Joe Harrison (u16) also fought superbly throughout the day and both finished in the quarterfinals. All of the medallists will have the honour to represent West Midlands at the national finals in May 2010. Epee guru Lindsay Bottoms won the ladies epee gold medal and Commonwealth fencer Dan Perry finished in the quarterfinals at the Essex Open.
Congratulations to all, keep up the good training!
